Finding Nemo et WALL-E lui ont valu deux Oscars du meilleur film d'animation. Il a également été nominé à trois reprises aux Oscars pour le meilleur scénario original, pour Finding Nemo, WALL-E et Toy Story (1995), et pour un Oscar du meilleur scénario adapté pour Toy Story 3 (2010). À la télévision, Stanton a réalisé deux épisodes de Stranger Things en 2017, un épisode de Better Call Saul en 2018, et la dernière saison de Legion en 2019.
